Two Years Ago Today

Two years ago today our friend, leader and hero when home to be with Jesus.  We have missed his presence and his pristine leadership in many ways.  Bishop Penny knew how to make everyone feel special with his smile, laugh, handshake and kindness.  Last night, I was reminded of him when I shared about the spirit of craftsmanship.  Truly, he was a man of polish!

For those reading this who never had the opportunity to meet Bishop Penny...well, you can still feel his presence in the DNA of our church.  Along, with Sister Penny, Bishop served with excellence for 11 years at BFWC teaching, preaching, leading, and so much more!

He was infamous for his AMENS and the phrase, "we're going on!"  He left us too soon and we miss him dearly.  When I reflect on his life, I see a man of integrity, character, discipline and diligence.  A true elder statesman, a great preacher and a fantastic man!  His example makes me want to be a better Christian, husband, father, pastor and friend.

Let's take a moment today to reflect on Bishop Penny's contributions and rejoice that we are a better church with a richer heritage because of him.

He's Still In The Fire

Rev. Robert Penny Sr. has been an ordained minister for the past 33 years. He has served in multiple ministry positions, including Senior Pastor. As a father, grandfather & a great grandfather, his pristine legacy of Christian faith has been imparted to future generations. Rev. Penny went home to be with Jesus on February 9, 2010. His ministry will never be forgotten. He will long be remembered for his preaching, spirit, craftsmanship, his "Amens!" and the phrase, "we're going on!" This sermon contains the voice and spirit of a man who was indeed considered an elder statesman and a highly respected minister of the Gospel.

Bishop Penny will forever be MY HERO!

One Year Ago...

One year ago today my hero, Rev. Robert Penny Sr., went home to be with Jesus.  I have missed my friend in many ways:  his wisdom, his smile, his laugh, his friendship, his presence, his preaching, his ministerial etiquette, his amens, his craftsmanship, etc.

BFWC continues forward today with a special piece of Bishop Penny in it's DNA.  A local church often thinks of it's past, present and future.  I'm happy that we had nearly 11 years together in Kingdom work.

Perhaps we can imagine Bishop Penny leaning over the balcony of Heaven today - cheering us on! 

Let's take a moment today to reflect on Bishop Penny's contributions and rejoice that we are a better church wth a richer heritage because of him.

In May 2005, BFWC had the privilege to honor Rev. & Mrs. Robert Penny for their service to the Lord. Brother Penny went home to be with Jesus nearly a year ago (February 9, 2010). He left a legacy so long that it's shadow will reach into future generations. I miss my friend dearly - Pastor Hylton

God's Instrument - Rev. Robert Penny, Sr.

I see the hands that hold God's word

And fold in prayer to seek His will.

I see the feet that walk the path

And offers of praise as from lofty hill.

I see the hands that serve Him well,

The ears that seek to hear His call,

The mouth that speaks truth and wisdom,

The busy feet that carry the message to all.

I see the heart that was pricked and entered

When God's man answered the gospel call

And yielded his life as a humble servant,

A man who is willing, as was Apostle Paul.

I see all of this as he stands in the pulpit,

A Celebration of Life

February 11, 2010

Robert William Penny, Sr. 72, of Indianapolis, IN went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. He was born November 4, 1937 in Duplin County, NC the son of the late Robert and Lummie Penny.

Robert was an ordained minister and an Elder at Bethel Family Worship Center. He retired from General Motors and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret; his three sons, Rick (Rose) Penny, Roger (Teresa) Penny, and Robert (Robin) Penny, Jr.; three brothers, Ottis, Raymond, and Roland Penny; three sisters, Zannie Atkinson, Glenda Mobley, and Clara Marshburn; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Bethel Family Worship Center officiated by Pastor Russell Hylton. Entombment will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Bethel Family Worship Center.

Funeral services will be live streamed at www.bfwc.net. Arrangements are in the care of Family Funeral Care.

November 4, 1937 - February 9, 2010

This morning, my hero, Rev. Robert Penny Sr., went home to be with Jesus. He stood with me personally as well as with our church, BFWC, for over 10 years. He was a member of our pastoral team and a "preacher's preacher." Words cannot describe how I feel in my heart at this moment. I'm torn between joy and sorrow. However, Bishop told me not to cry at his passing - he told me to rejoice and meet him on the other side. He then said, "Pastor, we're going on!"
